Henriette Sehmsdorf was born 1973 in Greifswald (Germany, former GDR), and grew up as the fifth child of a pastor's family in East Berlin. From 1991-1997, she studied opera directing at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" Berlin. Important teachers, their ethical and aesthetic consciousness was decisively shaped, Peter Konwitschny and Ruth Berghaus. After her studies she has performed as assistant director, dramaturg and director at the Vienna Burgtheater, the University of Music in Lübeck and at the Theater Vorpommern in Greifswald and Stralsund operate. From 2002 to 2008 she worked as a permanent freelancer for the Dresden Music Festival. In the world of opera at home, she becomes increasingly interested in interdisciplinary projects and for dramatic expansion of traditional repertoire, which forms the musical aspect of the work remains a priority.
